Shri. Suresh Hari Hasabnis, (Shriram calls him Baba) retired Sanskrit Teacher by profession and a passionate music practitioner from whom Shriram started learning basics of Hindustani Classical Music at the early age of six. Baba was influenced by his uncle who used to have Bhajan every week. He used to sing Bhajans and play Tabla since childhood. In the later period of time when he travelled to Pen, a small Konkan village where he noticed Pt. Haribhau Ghangrekar who was one of the senior Gwalior stalwarts and disciple of Pt. Ramkrishnabuwa Vaze. Baba wanted to learn vocal, so he requested Pt. Haribhau if he could teach him, but Haribhau refused saying he never conduct and music class and not willing to teach anybody as music was solely for his own happiness. But while saying that he asked Baba if he wants to learn Tabla, his younger brother Vinayakrao could teach him. Baba was unaware of the reputation of Pt. Vinayakrao Ghangrekar in the music field until he met him. Finally Vinayakrao agreed upon teaching Tabla to Baba. He was fortunate to earn Taalim from Vinayakrao for about three and half years until he left Pen for his further opportunities as a teacher. In the future Baba also learned classical vocal from Pt. Govindbuwa Kale at Sangli. Shriram's mother Snehalata also used to learn Harmonium from Pt. Nathbuwa Gurav of Sangli since her collage days, so both the parents used to practice every evening which was the first Sanskar and naturally many Bandishes were by heart by Shriram at a very early age of reciting school poems. Singing Madhya Lay Bandishes, Taranas, Natya-Sangeet and Bhajans were the favorite forms of Baba. Shriram's younger brother Vinayak learned Tabla from Baba in his childhood days and also carried the legacy as a Sanskrit Scholar like Baba. Both the brothers learnt the art of accompaniment at a very early age since it was the home Trio.
