Shriram Hasabnis is one of India’s leading harmonium exponents, renowned for his remarkable expertise and graceful artistry. For over twenty-five years, he has been a consistent presence at prestigious national music conferences and festivals, captivating audiences with both his solo and accompaniment performances.
 

Born into a family of musicians, Shriram's musical journey began under the guidance of his father, Shri Suresh Hasabnis, who nurtured his innate talent from an early age. He later received formal training in Hindustani classical vocal music from the late Pandit G. V. Dandekar, a senior exponent of the Gwalior Gharana, and further deepened his understanding under Sangeetacharya Pandit D. V. Kanebuwa of Ichalkaranji.
 

A turning point in his musical development came when he became a senior disciple of the legendary Padmashri Pandit Tulsidas Borkar, one of India’s greatest harmonium maestros. Under the rigorous discipline of the Guru-Shishya Parampara, Shriram mastered the harmonium as a solo and accompaniment instrument at the highest level.

Shriram has accompanied numerous stalwarts of Hindustani classical music at premier festivals across India and abroad, including on national broadcasts by All India Radio. Some of the great legends he has accompanied include Ganasaraswati Kishori Amonkar, Pandita Girija Devi, Pandit Kishan Maharaj, and Padmashri Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar, among many others.
 

In addition to being a sought-after accompanist, Shriram is increasingly celebrated for his solo harmonium recitals, where he brings out the melodic depth and expressive range of the instrument, engaging audiences with his refined technique and creative phrasing.

 

Because Indian Classical Music relies on the intricate architecture of notes to build the palace of a Raag, Shriram found himself drawn to its most complex and rarest voice: the Sarangi. He underwent master-level training under the guidance of great stalwarts Pt. Madhukar Khadilkar of Pune and Pt. Anant Kunte of Thane. Over his distinguished career, Shriram has accompanied legendary Tabla maestros like Pt. Bhai Gaitonde and Dr. Aneesh Pradhan.

Shriram is currently empaneled as a Guru at Lalit Kala Kendra, Pune, and Pt. Bhimsen Joshi Adhyasan of Savitribai Phule Pune University, where he mentors students in the art of harmonium playing. His lecture-demonstrations and workshops on the “Techniques and Styles of Harmonium Playing” have become essential learning experiences for serious students and enthusiasts of Indian classical music.
